Hey Tim!

Great to see you here!

Is this straight out of the camera, with no retouching done??

I ask that because I really like the image in many ways, but it looks like eyes are a tiny bit bloodshot and I see a shadow under HER left eye that I'd remove with retouching.

Great contrast and bright colors. Very cool.

I remember a "rule" that we're not supposed to look into the PALM of the hand, so perhaps turning her wrist around so we saw more of the back of her hand would help.

And one last thing. Sorry, you didn't ask for CC, but you're getting it anyway. lol :) I feel that HER right cheek, the side to our image left, should have a little bit of shadow on it. The lighting looks a little flat, which perhaps is the style you're going after, I don't know, so tell if that's what you wanted.

Thanks for sharing and I hope you share MANY more images with us all!!!!!

I agree with Adam. Love the shot, the colors are very bold and pop out at ya. I cant help but say this. My husband says if you look at peoples faces that one half of it looks slightly different then the other and he says that is because everyone has a good and bad side. If you cover the left side of her face the right side(with the shadow) shows her dark side and if you cover up the right side you see her innocent(good) side. Ok had to point that out.

Adam what is the rule with the palm of the hand? Never heard of it, but then again I have only been doing this for a year and 1/2:scratchhead:

Misty, it's just that "don't show the palm of the hand or the back of the hand, but more of the side of the hand" in poses. Sometime, when I get a little extra time, lol, I'll do a series of images of hands that show both the good and the bad of hand posing. What Tim did here with her hand isn't really BAD, I feel a turn of her wrist would've made it look more feminine.

hehehe.........CC Welcomed or I wouldn't have posted. Actually it is right out of the camera with very little retouch at this point. I hadn't finished the eyes completely when I posted but now the new version is done. I'm a little mixed about the shadows. I actually decided to flatten the light a little because I'm trying to get the Magazine exagerated pinup look where , in alot of them, you see really flat but good light, with exagerated everything else. But points well taken on the shadows.

Good call on the hand........ I'm still working on poses.

Tim,

I remember you from another forum and you are an excellent photographer. I hope that your image posting will help both you and others that look at them here. I'm glad to see you sharing. :)

Yep that was me :) Thanks for the compliments. It's fun to learn.....that's why I love being a photographer...... so far I like it here....so I will be contributing.

Now I need to get rid of that pesky shadow and those red veins in her eyes

Tim,

For clarity, on that other place, I always went to look at the images you posted and no, it wasn't because they were always pretty ladies and sometimes scantily clad, lol, but because you have great ideas and seem to be always trying to do something different with backgrounds, lighting, etc. You're innovative, that's the word. :)

Here's a few more from the same shoot.

I need to give credit where credit is due.... the background idea was borrowed from Robert Alvarado whom I consider to be one of the top Pinup Photographers. I know alot of you are going to tell me that some seem a little overexposed but that was the look I was actually trying to get this time around. I'm working on different looks. CC is welcome.

Man, you are really good! You and Robert both, and yeah, he's VERY good! Uhm, is it a little nipply in here? lol

:) Yes Robert is very talented and I give him all the credit in the world for motivating me to be as good. I'm still trying....... I've got some more to post later.

So here's the same girl..... I know this isn't really pinup style but I treated it like one when working on the backdrop and effect.

That's pretty nice, Tim. Wow, that image is huge! lol. Largest I think I've seen on here so far. Is the longest side 600 pixels and you have it at 72 dpi?? Or did you go higher dpi?

Tim Ellis

sorry I'm fixin' it now :)

Much Better !!!

Oh, no, not a problem, I wasn't complaining. I was just curious what size it was for it to look like that here. Do you know the exact size of what was posted?

The first one was 1144 x 1638 at 72 dpi. I have no idea why it did that. I resize them using an action and its supposed to resize them to 700 on the long side. I had to go back and manually change the size.

Interesting, from what I see in the settings of the software, it should only allow a maximum size of 600 pixels on the longest side. I may need to see why it let it through. To keep download times reasonable and not fill up the server, image file sizes need to have a cap on them. Must be a setting somewhere in this software that missed. Thanks for the info. Great images you're creating, keep it up!

With so many new people, I thought I would bump this thread up and see what kind of CC I get.

Since you bumped this for more C&C...I love what you are doing here. I would particularly be interested in your lighting set-up on the blue one if you would care to share. Thanks.

Just another reminder how old I am...

I love the colors, but the piercings are awful. They are so distracting that a beautiful woman becomes, for me, an image to avoid.

I am glad I am not in the business of photographing people. Between piercings and tattoos, I would be unable to do a good job.

Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but my eyes are looking elsewhere. Give me Norman Rockwell over pins and ink any day. (*rolls eyes at old self*)

Thanks..... I used a basic high key setup for the background and then had a b-800 (alien bee) with a 40" softbox just to camera left and the same setup for fill. I was actually trying to get a slightly blown out effect to duplicate alot of what you used to see in magazines.

John.....thanks for the CC. I appreciate your opinion even if you think it's a sign of your age :) Actually your opinion means more than most for the simple reason that you are telling me what appeals to you without being clouded by experience with Portrait Photography. That's actually the way I try to shoot. I've always said that in order to break the rules you have to know them first, but how sweet it is when you break the rules !!!!!!

I appreciate the feedback. Thanks. I shoot quite a bit of "glam" but, have recently started a "co-op" with a pin-up airbrush artist and have been seeking a better light setup. I like yours and think I'll give it a shot this weekend. I think I'll add a sheet of white backer board on the floor for a little reflection as well.

Oh, it is a sign of my age, Tim. I know it with much chagrin. Back in the 60s when my parents ragged on long hair and beards, I swore I would never be like that.

OUCH. I have become my father! Well, there are good parts to that, of course, but I literally laugh at myself for my dislike of what kids today like (piercings, tattoos, rap music).

I apologize to all who like those things. I know I am an old fuddy-duddy; I just can't help it. :scratchhead:

On your second set of images your first two are a little bit over processed. Her skin tone is off and way to smooth. Looks to fake for me. Your third image is nice. More natural looking. Great pose and a wonderful smile. Youra littl hot on the left side but it works out for the most part. Your best one is the last image. Armpits aside cause they are really nothing to look at. Nice composition, great capture of her eyes. But back to the armpit. It's an eye sore and for the most part they almost always overpower the shot. Doing pin-up watch that. It will make for a nicer inage.

thank you...... I learned the spot technique from Robert Alvarado...and i believe it is proprietary to Robert so i can't really tell you how to do it. If you contact Robert he will probably tell you. I'm pretty open about techniques that I create myself but in this case I know he's creating a DVD for sale. I will tell you that you can create it pretty easy with another layer and then extacting the model and putting her in front of the spot that you've created. Tools used : Extract tool, Circle marque tool, gradient tool,
